About Wahr Re

Wahr Re LLC is a Miami-based reinsurance intermediary serving clients across international markets, with a particular focus on Latin America and the Caribbean.

Our business combines technical reinsurance expertise, focused international market access and close client relationships. As Wahr Re continues to grow, we are expanding our technical accounting and operational capabilities to support increasing volumes of reinsurance business.

We are looking for a Credit Control & Technical Accounting Analyst to join our team in Miami.

The Role

The Credit Control & Technical Accounting Analyst will support the processing, allocation, reconciliation and collection of reinsurance-related balances.

The role sits at the intersection of reinsurance operations and finance and requires an understanding of how premiums, commissions, brokerage, claims and other technical transactions flow between cedants, brokers and reinsurers.

A key part of the role will involve processing treaty statements and other technical accounts, allocating premium receipts, reconciling balances and actively managing outstanding receivables.

The successful candidate will work closely with underwriting, finance and operational teams to ensure transactions are correctly recorded, cash is accurately allocated and outstanding balances are actively followed up and resolved.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Accounting

  • Process and review treaty, facultative and other reinsurance statements.
  • Record and allocate premium, commission, brokerage and other technical accounting transactions within the relevant systems.
  • Review statements of account received from cedants, brokers, reinsurers and other counterparties.
  • Process treaty accounts and periodic statements received from counterparties.
  • Ensure transactions are allocated to the correct contracts, underwriting periods and accounting categories.
  • Review premiums, commissions, brokerage, taxes and other deductions for consistency with contractual terms.
  • Identify discrepancies between statements, underwriting records and accounting records and investigate differences.
  • Maintain accurate counterparty and contract-level accounting records.
  • Reconcile premiums, claims, commissions, brokerage and other reinsurance balances.
  • Work closely with underwriting and operational teams to resolve technical accounting queries.
  • Support month-end, quarter-end and year-end technical accounting processes.
  • Assist with management reporting and the preparation of technical accounting and aged debt reports.
  • Maintain complete and accurate supporting documentation for all technical accounting transactions.

Cash Allocation

  • Review incoming premium receipts and determine the contracts and transactions against which payments should be allocated.
  • Accurately allocate cash receipts within the relevant accounting and reinsurance systems.
  • Investigate unidentified, partially allocated or incorrectly allocated payments.
  • Obtain remittance information from counterparties where required.
  • Reconcile cash receipts against statements and outstanding balances.
  • Maintain appropriate supporting documentation for all allocations.
  • Work closely with internal teams to ensure cash is applied promptly and accurately.

Credit Control

  • Maintain accurate records of outstanding premiums and other receivables.
  • Monitor aged balances and identify overdue amounts requiring follow-up.
  • Contact cedants, brokers and other counterparties regarding outstanding balances.
  • Maintain clear records of collection activity, correspondence and expected payment dates.
  • Investigate differences or disputes preventing settlement.
  • Escalate material or long-outstanding balances to management and underwriting teams.
  • Assist with the production and review of aged debt reports.
  • Work with underwriting teams to ensure credit control considerations are incorporated into ongoing client and contract management.
  • Follow outstanding items through to resolution rather than simply reporting aged balances.

Candidate Profile

No prior reinsurance experience? While previous insurance or reinsurance experience would be advantageous, it is not essential for the right candidate. We are looking for someone with strong numerical ability, attention to detail, a willingness to learn and an interest in building a career in the reinsurance industry. Training and support will be provided.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Experience working with reconciliations and financial or transactional data.
  • A good understanding of accounting principles.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • The ability to investigate and resolve discrepancies independently.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a portfolio of outstanding items.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • The confidence to engage professionally with cedants, brokers, reinsurers and internal stakeholders.
  • The ability to work effectively across finance, underwriting and operational teams.
  • A proactive approach to credit control and problem resolution.

Experience with reinsurance premium accounting, treaty statements, statements of account, bordereaux, brokerage, cash allocation or reinsurance systems would be particularly advantageous.

Spanish language skills would also be advantageous given Wahr Re’s international and Latin American market focus.

Why Join Wahr Re?
